Blogs & Aesthetics
This week in class, we touched on different subjects. This week, we read an article
by The University of Wisconsin - Madison Writing Center titled "Writing an Effective
Blog Post." In this article, the author discusses one of the most valuable
characteristics of a blog by stating, What makes blogs so different from journalism,
as the authors of The Elements of \Blogging: Expanding the Conversation of
Journalism suggests, is the discussion between writer and reader." This makes a lot
of sense, considering most blog readers are individuals searching for a community
with similar tastes. Furthermore, the author discusses other characteristics, such
as block quotes, links, and images.
After discussing the findings from the reading, we had an in-class discussion of
different blogs found online. The blog that captivated my attention was “Humans of
New York.” This blog showcased stories of dozens of citizens in New York City.
The blogs’ use of different characteristics made these individuals’ stories much
more impactful.
On Wednesday, we discussed different websites and how their composition
reflected what the website’s creator stood for. In my part of the discussion, I
decided to look at the iPhone 14 Pro page on the Apple website. In our discussion,
we mentioned the symbolism behind Apple’s use of color, transition, and
typefaces to portray what they represent—-simplicity and ease of use.
Furthermore, instead of outright telling consumers they’re the focus of their
product, their description of the iPhone features makes that case for them. All in all,
this was a perfect example of a well-composed page. Due to this genius marketing
technique, consumers like me have become loyal customers through the years.

Cesar,
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed your thoughts during class on Wednesday about the Apple website. I think that you brought up excellent themes, color, and other aspects that added to why this website works as well as it does. I was thinking of other electronic device websites, and there is not as much effort than what I find Apple making for their website. Despite me thinking that Apple is a superior device, I think that the extra effort they put into their advertisement is what allows them to be so successful.
Hey Cesar!
ReplyDeleteI liked the comments you brought up during our in-class discussion on Apple’s website. After taking a look at it as a class, I agreed with some things I really hadn’t noticed, but I felt Apple’s awareness of using symbolic themes was super interesting. I feel like if you’re going to have a website or a blog that you need to be super aware of the message your audience sees because it could have a lasting impact and people will remember the branding you use. As we start on these projects for Unit 3 I’m really excited to see what you’re able to come up with and how you will incorporate some of the strategies that Apple uses.
